Parenting a child with nonverbal autism: Strategies and helpful tips

Raising a child with autism and non-verbal disorder faces great difficulties and challenges for parents. It is important to understand their special needs, enhance communication, and create a supportive environment for them. There are some strategies and ideas that help parents how to deal with their children.
I want to share with you my experience on this topic. I have two children diagnosed with autism disorder. My daughter is severe and my son is mild. At first, this  was very difficult, especially since I did not know much about this disorder and how to deal with it, especially since my two children are non-verbal, and this makes it much more difficult. Because communicating with them is difficult and they do not have the ability to communicate

What does non-verbal autism mean? It is a subset of autism spectrum disorder. Some children have limited language and the other has no language. Their ability to communicate is through making some sounds or special facial expressions or signs. It is necessary for parents to focus on these signs and try to understand them. To help understand some of the child's needs
 
what can we do to help them?

1-create communication: There are some ways to establish non-verbal communication with the child: including the method of exchanging pictures. This method helps children use pictures to obtain things. There are some electronic devices that contain smart applications that help children communicate as well. There is also sign language that can be taught to children as a way to communicate and express their needs.
2-Help the child feel safe by creating a daily routine to reduce their feelings of anxiety. Such as using regular times daily to eat, setting times for play, and organizing sleep.
3-Work with specialists in this disorder, such as speech and language therapists. Behavioral therapists and occupational therapists help children develop
4- Celebrating the child’s development. Every development of this child with autism disorder is an achievement worth celebrating, and this encourages parents and children to continue learning and developing

Raising a child with non-verbal autism requires patience, understanding, and continuity in working with specialists to find the best ways to support the child . Finally, we must not forget the psychological health of the parents, so we must take periods of rest to recharge the energy. We must provide the best support for our exceptional children and be proud of them.
